Bompastor left Lyon last season after Women's Super League champions Chelsea came calling following Emma Hayes' departure. The French coach spent three years at the Premiere Ligue club, leading them to three consecutive league titles, one Coupe de France feminine and the 2021-22 Women's Champions League.

Monetmurro took on the job of following up the fabulous job done by Bompastor over the previous three seasons, and managed to continue Lyon's league dominance with a title win over Mary Earps' Paris Saint-Germain. However, Lyon have now officially parted ways with the Australian boss due to the club's failure to win the Coupe de France and the Champions League.

As per recent reports, Lyon could be set to replace Montemurro with former Barcelona coach Jonatan Giraldez, who is currently with the Washington Spirit. The Catalan coach is set to depart the NWSL side over the next month.

WHAT NEXT FOR MONTEMURRO?

Reports in Australia have claimed that Montemurro is a heavy favourite to become the head coach of the Australian Women's national team. The Matildas have been without a permanent manager since the departure of Tony Gustavsson, who was sacked after his side's disappointing showing at the Paris Olympics.
