Wizard101 is Finally Coming to PS5

The long-standing family-friendly MMORPG Wizard101 from KingsIsle Entertainment is finally making its debut on PS5 and other gaming consoles on October 9. Players have enjoyed the game’s blend of magical study with turn-based combat and expansive exploration, and Wizard101 is finally making the leap to new gaming platforms almost two decades since its original launch.

Often compared to games like World of Warcraft and similar to stories like Harry Potter, Wizard101 sees players taking on the role of a young apprentice witch or wizard studying at the Ravenwood School. Gameplay includes deck-building with magical cards that summon mythical creatures and elemental powers to defeat enemies across unique realms of the fantastical world known as the Spiral. Wizard101 has remained popular among PC players for years, and fans on Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox systems will soon be able to join the fight for good in a land ruled by magic.

When is Wizard101 Coming to Consoles?

  • PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5: October 9, 2025
  • Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S: October 9, 2025
  • Nintendo Switch: TBA

A brand-new console release trailer from KingsIsle has confirmed an October 9 release for Wizard101 on PlayStation and Xbox systems, though the Nintendo Switch version launch date is still unknown. It has been confirmed that Wizard101 will remain a free-to-play download on PlayStation and Xbox, but there will be a $19.99 fee for the Switch version, which will include the first full story arc for Wizard101. While both the PS and Xbox versions will include the expanded free-to-play area, which now includes the Oasis zone of Krokotopia, players will still need to purchase a subscription to play the full game through the first story arc and beyond. Earlier in 2025, fans were able to try a Wizard101 Game Preview on Xbox, which also offered the free-to-play section of the game. Regardless of platform, players will need to purchase a monthly or annual subscription to enjoy the entirety of Wizard101.

Despite criticism of a lack of major expansions in recent years, particularly when compared to other massively multiplayer online role-playing games, Wizard101 has maintained a loyal player base, and KingsIsle is hoping the inclusion of console users will reignite interest in the beloved game. Fans remain supportive of the colorful world and its magical characters and gameplay, and the 17 years of ongoing game service are a testament to the popularity of the unsung online title.

With many lamenting a lack of multiplayer in magical games like Hogwarts Legacy, it should come as no surprise that Wizard101 is finally making its way to consoles. It remains to be seen if console players will be as interested in the subscription service needed to complete Wizard101, but the initial free-to-play option could be what KingsIsle needs to draw in new fans.
